Fremantle Cockburn Hockey Club - Graduates and Hookin2Hockey (Minkey) 2025
What is Grads & Hookin2Hockey?
Hookin2Hockey (Hin2H) - formerly known as Minkey, is a modified version of hockey designed for mixed teams of boys and girls from Kindy to Year 2. Rules are modified to encouage a safe and free flowing game. The aim is to have a lot of fun while learning the basics of hockey. Sessions go for 1 hour and include a mixture of training drills and games.
Graduates (Grads) - is a junior Year 3 and Year 4 grade and is a transitional grade as players move from Hin2H into the Junior Competition in Year 5. Grads progress from playing on a smaller ground through to a full size field by the end of the season. They further develop their basic skills and start to learn the positions of the game, however it is not a requirement to have played Hin2H to play Grads. We run 2 sessions per week - Thursday evenings are more of a training style with Saturday mornings being more game play. There is also one Friday twilight session once a month on the turf at Lakelands following some positive feedback from previous years. Some Saturday mornings and Friday nights will be intraclub matches against other FCHC teams (particularly early in the year as the kids are learning the game). Later we will play some games against other local clubs - full details will be given throughout the season. At this age, the emphasis is on learning and enjoying the sport, not the outcome of the game.

Coaches
Thank you to those who have volunteered to coach so far, however we always need more volunteers to coach. You certainly do not need to be an expert player or coach to help, many hands make light work! Please contact Bronwyn at hookin2hockey@freohockey.com or graduates@freohockey.com ASAP if you are willing to assist with coaching.
Uniforms and Equipment
Hookin2Hockey - A Hin2H equipment pack is included in the season fees (stick, shin pads and a ball) which can be collected at their first session. Hin2H kids also have a special Mini-Magpies Hin2H club shirt available for purchase from the FCHC Pro Shop @ Lakelands – this is non-compulsory and no need to have before the first session.
Graduates - Grads kids must wear the full club uniform for Saturday sessions. Uniforms are the same as the previous season and are available from the FCHC Pro Shop @ Lakelands along with sticks and other equipment – generally open Thursday evenings.
Mouthguards
Mouthguards are a compulsory piece of equipment and the club policy is that all players should have a mouthguard prior to taking the field for any practice or game. Mouthguards are available at your local chemist, or from the dentist (often covered by Private Health Insurance).
